Takel
August 30, 2025
Meet our 11-year-old black potbellied pig, Takel. At 6 months old, Takel was given to the farm by a family who feared their dog saw Takel as a potential dinner! At the time, the farm had three other pigs named Hammie, Kitty and Mindy. Over the years, Takel’s enclosure was expanded thanks to a sponsorship from Deen supermarket.
While Takel loves to eat and sleep, he also enjoys foraging for snacks in the ground, “chatting” with our staff and visitors, and back scratches. During the summer months, Takel sheds his winter coat and a professional comes by regularly to give him a pedicure and trim his teeth.

Sheep Shearing
August 20, 2025
For the second time this year, we sheared the wool coats of our sheep. This prevents overheating and reduces disease.

Honey Bee Hives
July 13, 2025
On Sunday, our beekeeper inspected the health of the honey bee hives. The bee boxes are located in a safe place behind the donkey pastures. At one of our parties, you can buy a fresh jar of honey.
Did you know:
– Bees have existed for more than 100 million years and scientists have documented more than 16,000 species of bees.
– Bees are great predictors of the weather. Bees often seek shelter before the onset of rain or a storm because the tiny hairs on their bodies can detect changes in humidity and temperature.
– Bee colonies are organized into a social structure, which includes the queen bee, the drones and the worker bees. The worker bees divide their work in and outside the hive. In the hive, worker bees care for the honey and attend to the queen. Outside the hive, they collect nectar, pollen and water, and guard the colony.
– Bees are vitally important to the health of the environment and maintaining biodiversity. One-third of the world’s crops rely on bees.

Igor, Our Newest Donkey
May 28, 2025
Igor is our newest donkey. He is 28 years old and lives with L’ Albert. Donkeys are companion animals and require social interactions for their well-being. For 6 years, Igor worked with children at a coaching practice and after staying in Stichting De Ezelshoeve for some time, he can now retire on De Buiktuin.
To our great sorrow, we had to put our donkey Kasper to sleep unexpectedly on February 10. He was not with us for very long, but we hope that we gave him a nice last year. He seemed young but was already over 25 years old, just like our big donkey L’Albert.

Celebrating Our 50th Anniversary
May 18, 2025
On Sunday, May 18, we celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Kinderboerderij De Buiktuin. The party included children’s games, a flea market, a lottery and performance choir!
In 1972, residents in Noord started to build the farm at the site of the Van Baarsen concrete factory. After completing construction over the course of three years, the children’s farm opened its doors in 1975!
