At De Buiktuin Children’s Farm live different types of animals. We now have a pig, several breads of sheep, goats, rabbits, guinea pigs, chickens, two farm cats, aviary birds and our beautiful donkeys. Our animals live together with their own kind and their accommodation and food are adapted to the needs of the animal. The welfare of our animals is our top priority and for that reason we ask you not to feed our animals yourself! You can always bring old bread, vegetables and fruit (no peels and not too much) to us.
GOATS
There are different goat breeds at De Buiktuin, such as Toggenburger, Dwarf goat and Nubian goat (with drooping ears).
SHEEP
We have several sheep on De Buiktuin, including the Kerrie-Hill, Black Nose Sheep and Spectacled Sheep. We also have the smallest sheep species here, the Ouessant.
DONKEYS
We have two donkeys named L’ Albert and Igor. Both are over 25 years old!
PIG
We have one black potbellied pig at the Buiktuin named Takel.
AVIARY
The aviary houses various types of birds, such as diamond doves, zebra finches and canaries. They are busy all day eating, bathing, flying around and chattering to each other.
BEES
The petting zoo also has beehives, in a safe place behind the donkey pasture. Our beekeeper Donald regularly comes to take care of them. At one of our parties you can come and buy a jar of honey.
RABBITS
Our group of rabbits have access to an indoor and outdoor enclosure. They have dug a complete tunnel system and can show their natural behavior.
GUINEA PIGS
The guinea pigs live on the top floor of the enclosure above the rabbits. They are all females, because otherwise we would have far too many guinea pigs. They are very cozy with each other and enjoy themselves immensely.
CATS
We have two friendly cats on the farm, Stacey (red/white) and Liana (dark tortoiseshell). They love to be petted! They are good mouse catchers.
CHICKENS
A mixed group of chickens lives in the chicken coop. Due to foxes and the returning bird flu, chickens can unfortunately no longer run free at De Buiktuin.
WILD DUCKS
Wild ducks also often visit us and, if possible, eat with us.
FANCY PIGEONS
At the top of the stable lives 1 white ornamental pigeon, an elderly male.
